The impressively illustrated book, 'An Dinh – Hué’s Hidden Pearl' presents the conservation and restoration of wall and ceiling paintings in the An Dinh Palace, explains the processes involved and documents the on-site training of local artists and artisans and the historical background. The publication was launched in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as part of the 'Germany in Vietnam 2010' programme that marked the two countries' thirty-five years of diplomatic relations, and was then presented at the An Dinh Palace from 07–13.06.2010, in the framework of the Hué Cultural Festival 2010.
The audio-slideshow produced to mark thirty-five years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany introduces the Federal Foreign Office's Cultural Preservation Programme, here illustrated by three projects: the An Dinh Palace, the tomb of the emperor Tu Duc and the historic village core of Tran Dang. The documentation was shown in Hanoi, Tran Dang and Ho Chi Minh City as part of the 'Germany in Vietnam 2010' programme, as well as at the An Dinh Palace from 07–13.06.2010, in the framework of the Hué Cultural Festival 2010.
The exhibition at the tomb of the Emperor Tu Duc in Hué documents how Vietnamese-German cooperation contributed to the success of a pilot project and hence, to the preservation of Vietnam's cultural heritage. Ten large, fully illustrated panels show all the German Conservation Restoration & Education Projects (GCREP) team accomplished in conserving and restoring the gateway and spirit screen at the tomb. The results set a benchmark for future work at similar sites. The exhibition was opened as part of the Hué Cultural Festival in June 2010 and can still be visited today.
